atw: Re: What do you call it???

Hi Warren,
I think you'll find it's 'luminaire', 'lamp fitting' or 'lamp socket', rather
than
'lamp' [in the trade] that the bulb fits into. My wife has bought bedside
reading
lamps - and they include the stand, shade, cable, plug and lamp socket, as
well as the bulb.
Me = electronics engineer and taught tradespeople at TAFE in
electrotechnology for yonks.
I think many people confuse what they read with what they think people say -
much of what they read is produced overseas.
Brian.
  You said:
"Lamp" in Australian trade terms is a device which holds the globe or bulb.
So you would buy a lamp and fit a 20 watt globe in to it.
