atw: Re: What do you call it???

I was an automotive and household electrician.

Globe is far more commonly used in the automotive industry. Bulb, globe,
fluoro tube (for fluorescent light fitting) can all be used interchangeably
and be understood.

Note too that specific types of light globe or bulb have specific industry
jargon associated with them. H4, H3, H2, or Halogen High low beam, festoon,
wheat bulb, fluoro tube, gas discharge, magnesium or a variety of others are
used.

My suggestion is to choose one phrase, light globe, or light bulb, and use
it consistently throughout the product.

Warren.

Thanks Andrea, but the version I received from one of my colleague here=
 is
that in Australia, if it is fitted to the ceiling it is a GLOBE and if =
it
is fitted to the headlight of a car it is a BULB...

I'm from India and we speak and are taught British English, and persona=
lly,
I prefer BULB....the common usage for the word GLOBE would be for the o=
ne
that has the map of the world on it ? in Geography.

Thanks
Sheetal Laviena.

How many technical writers does it take to work out a standard wording =
for
'light bulb'.... :-) Just based on the jokes, I'd say go for 'light bul=
b'

If you were writing for an Australian audience, what do=3D =3D20you say=
 a light
bulb or a light globe?

Thanks
Sheetal Laviena.
