atw: Re: Westies went bush?

I really urge you to go along to the Westies events.

Years ago the ASTC had a special interest group for editors which was very
successful when Jean Weber and later another person ran it. I finished up
running it and I'm not sure if it was me, and/or the venue but people
stopped coming and that was the end of it.

I now run an informal meeting of legal and financial communicators once a
month at lunch in a Martin Place office in Sydney. We generally get 10 to
20 people but we have had just 7 or 8 (and also over 30). It's a great
opportunity to talk to people and network and the inforamtion we share is
always very interesting. If you are interested in getting my email about
our meetings please contact me off list.

It's so important to support these events. Find one that suits you. It's
really disappointing to the people who put a bit of effort into organising
them. The best thing about such meetings is that they are free and are not
confined to rules and agendas. People feel free to talk without putting
in huge efforts on their presentation.

Much as we all love this list there's nothing like meeting people face to
face. I can't easily get to Mattaparra but it must suit quite a lot of
people.

PLEASE SUPPORT INFORMAL MEETINGS.

So where wuz you all? Colin and I had a great night, the promotional girls
were there from the Formula One teams and we were their audience so we had
a
ball. No-one else to be seen! What's the story? Rumour has it Warren is
dating again, but he has only been seen with men. Roz is in love with her
driving seat and wont stop long enuf for a beer, Alan is having a midlife
crisis and whilst rediscovering the lost neurons of his youth at
university
has decided to re-investigate the joys of the last-minute assignment cram,
Bede took a wrong turn due to the terrible state of affairs with
documentation on our roads and several other potential slander victims
failed to show as well.

Then, just to top it off, I get told by Dell that a part is not available
for my new supercomputer and it is still sitting in Malaysia tonight.
Sigh.

Resolutions made at tonights meeting:

The Commercial's steak is great for non-vegetarians
Terrorists need to focus on destroying reality TV shows, they would
probably
win public support that way. Their next targets should then include
conspiracy theorists.
The sooner that tech writers realise they are the necessary scum of the
business world the better off everyone will be.
Agencies that allow you to charge the client direct as a company rule OK.
We need to make documentation development solutions application
independent.
Warren needs to buy Steve another drink or 6. (Well, I made that
resolution
on the way home, and with half the vote it carried)

Steve
