atw: Re: Was OT: Culture - now truth and logic

I agree with Brian and MEG.
I listen to the ABC local radio (cricket in summer is awesome) but
particularly love AM, 'The World Today' and PM.

However, Brian is correct, the ABC reporters are often poor interviewers,
and some of the younger ones are clearly intimidated. But when one of the
more seasoned interviewers on the ABC gets their hands on one of the
skunks in parliament. Ouch. I notice that mandy vanstoned is taking less
interviews on the ABC. I also notice "Ruddock speak" nails most of the
young journo's to the pillory.

The SBS site is awesome. I find it an insightful treasure trove of useful
news about the goings on around the world. I also occasionally visit
websites from other parts of the world, admittedly they are full of bias
so the crapometer is turned up.

Right now, particularly here in Australia, Peter Garrett has made it clear
just this morning that the Sedition laws are wrong, and must be removed.
Ruddock has stated he is not removing it. The Sedition law allows
prosecution of any person who speaks out against the government. This does
go against the "freedom of speech" that is fundamental to democracy.
Ruddock states that there is no intention of stopping freedom of speech.
If there is no intention of preventing freedom of speech, then why is the
law being proposed? Why do we need it (given the terrorism issue is a well
managed spin campaign)?

In fact, the entire anti terrorism legislation has components within it
that parallel the laws Hitler's political party brought in after they
achieved power in Germany. My great fear is that the sedition laws will be
used. Against all of us. Why the obsession with bringing these anti-terror
laws in before the Industrial Relations laws?

People, I have access to several politicians, I can and do ring them
anytime! I initially sent them a couple of Emails. Most love being in
touch with local people. Most listen to what you have to say. You can make
a difference. I know I do, and I am just a bloke. The best part about it
all, is that right NOW you can go to the Australian govt website portal
and find EVERY Australian politician's email address, as well as email
addresses for most foreign embassies here. You know what to do...

PS: Btw Michael, not wishing to rub salt in the wounds, though I am sorry
to hear you lost Virginia Trioli, but I'm not sorry we have her in Sydney.
Another former Melbournian has seen the light, and graduated to the
greatest city on earth, (politics aside).
