OK here goes, from Julie's original mail:
1. What are the best tools to create multiple use XML fragments that
can be used in different places?
2. Is this something that you can learn enough about in a short time or
is it something I/we need a real expert in? And as a consultant or to do
whole job?
Terry, I don't understand how Doc2Help fits in there - as far as I know it
doesn't touch XML.
As for which tools are the best - how long is a piece of string? Julie, what
are your actual requirements for using XML?
Moving to an XML authoring/publishing method is not a light undertaking and you
need to have really good reasons for going there. If you are not sure what it
is you want to achieve you might be best to get a consultant in to analyse what
you are trying to do and to suggest the best tools for you. You may find that
you don't need XML after all (and Word IncludeText fields and Doc2Help may be
enough), or that you can go there partially with tools such as AuthorIT.
I would not recommend Word as an XML environment - yes it can produce XML but
it doesn't really have the full interface required to produce *useful* XML. And
I'm not sure whether it ever will.
