Thanks for your suggestions, on- and off-list.

That's my problem! I was after a quick way to find out which styles to
search for! (I have no problem _replacing_ the styles once I know which ones
they are.)

Steve and Terry suggested using the Tools > Options > View tab to display
the style names alongside the text in Normal view. Unfortunately I have
about 150 pages to wade through, so I was looking for a more automated way.

Thanks, that's a reasonably reliable way of finding out which styles are
_really_ in use. Then I can search for each of the unwanted ones, using an
appropriate style to replace those that are actually found. Sounds like a
good way to go.

How so? Can I use it to find instances of unwanted styles, much more quickly
than looking at the style area in Normal view?

This sounds like a possibility. Thanks for the idea.

Margaret suggested using FrameMaker to manage the paragraph styles. It lets
you work out which styles are definitely in use. Then you can
find-and-replace or globally update them.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.
