atw: Re: Turning off Track Changes in Word 2003

Warren,

Can you write some code in the Document New or Document Open functions
that automatically turns off Track Changes when you create or open a
document? You could probably even put such a function into normal.dot.

There is a way of turning it off, because I have. I remember spending
frustrating hours doing it, and can't for the life of me remember where
I found it.

OH no, far more insidious than that...

It seems Word developers, in THEIR wisdom, (wait for it) decided
that whenever you open a template in Word 2003 that 'Track changes'
should be on.

Personally I can't think of anything more infuriating in Word
than Track Changes (on rare occasions I have used it
semi-partially-successfully) but mostly, I HATE IT.

I will try the "protect the template" option, but Lord knows we
would be better protecting ourselves from Word developers utilising
their version of wisdom... To the extent of being sexist I could say
Word developers have less wisdom than ... but no; I should behave at
least somewhat like a reconstructed Aussie bloke on this list.

New Oxymoron: Word developer and wisdom. Like military and
intelligence.

Besides Bede, you couldn't insult my intelligence, because,
well, what intelligence?

        Wassa.

PS: Speaking of reconstructed, two blokes here (myself included
amongst this cabal) just floored one of our lady colleagues when she
caught us in the act of loading the dishwasher with dirty plates
following a birthday cake demolition ceremony. Rinsed as well. Touche.

At the risk of insulting your intelligence Warren, could it be
something like document protection being set in the template? I just
tested the idea and found that if you protect a template, the documents
based on it are protected too.

I have developed a new template (clever boy aren't I!) in Word
2003.

Applying it to some new documents I am having an infuriating
time with Track changes every time I open the new documents, opening up
in its own way, confusing the be-devil out of me.

I have consicously turned it off in the template, but every time
I open a document the damn thing is on, expecially insertions and
deletions.

Is there something I have to do in the template or is it related
to the document that I have to do something to STOP it, preferably
permanently, I absolutely HATE track changes functions. Can I turn it
off in REGEDIT?

I have noticed that if I add a comment to a document now, it
seems to create 'Track changes' behavioural responses that can only be
described as psychotic. Like me right now...

Is there a bug that someone knows about? (Apart from the usual
diatribes about MS word being one big bug...)

        Warren.
