Yeah Pete, I can see why the legal reasons. I have seem the consequences of
the silliness that sort of thing can cause, which is why I HATE track
changes.
I am accepting all changes the way you suggest but will play with the
security thing to see if that helps or hinders...

There was a (compelling legal) reason for that design decision:

Go to:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA010983881033.aspx

and read the section "Why Word 2003 displays revisions and comments by
default"

To get rid of the tracked changes permanently:

1. Display Reviewing toolbar.
2. Click Accept Change drop-down then Accept All Changes in Document.
