atw: Re: Training Course Recommendations

Hi Gary,

I am new to this forum as well.

I have begun a professional writing and editing course with Gordon TAFE in
Geelong. Editing is one of the core subjects. The whole course is a
certificate iv taking 12 months, onto a diploma course for another 12
months. Industry people teaching, many industry people as guest speakers,
and all work has to be up to industry standards.

> This is my first post. Congratulations on having such an interesting
forum. I have an IT and engineering background and am moving into technical
writing via proofreading/editing. To this end, I will initially be doing a
proofreading/editing course .

'Professional Editing & Proofreading' (nominally 6 mths, personal tutor
appointed). There are other courses run by various other organisations,
often 1-2 days length. I was surprised that WEA & TAFE no longer seem to run
one (unless I'm missing something).

need to have killer course notes to offset the brief contact time). I feel
they might be more appropriate down the track for skills development.

the industry, e.g. what is the perceived standing of the ACJ? What training
bodies are most favoured and/or effective?

courses, please make that fact clear as I am not yet familiar with
subscribers' activities.
