Fortunately not a common one, but the worst lies came from Ambit when I
queried a "can terminate without reason with an hour's notice" clause,
couple with a "must give 4 weeks' notice to resign" clause. When I
rejected it, they said they couldn't change my individual contract 'cos
then they'd have to adjust everyone's. I told them I hadn't realised I
was negotiating an award or enterprise agreement.

 

The thing is that this was at the contract signing stage, so their
client (BHP) had chosen me. I'd love to know what they told BHP about
what happened and why they were getting their number 2 choice.

 

Oddly enough, when I called for information about my current job, the
first thing the agent said was "you probably don't have a chance as
their needs are very specific". This was before we had even discussed my
qualifications and experience. That was three years ago.

Hi All:

 

These are the top 3 lies I hear from recruitment agencies:

 

1. "You are just what they are looking for. I'll submit your CV to the
client".

2. "I'll get back to you as soon as I hear from the client".

3. "I'll get back to you".

 

I like to think I'm not jaded, just realistic. Anyone else have any top
X  lies?
