I agree with Christine. Once upon a time there was an appreciable 
difference between the cost of living in Brisbane and living in - say 
Sydney. Land prices in some parts of SEQ have tripled in four years, the 
Gold Coast is taking over from Sydney as the most expensive real estate in 
Australia, food, power etc , all cost the same. However, and this is 
something that really irks me, a lot of recruiters try and pull a swifty 
by using the "Oh it's a lower wage because it's cheaper to live here? 
Based on what? I ask. 

Another thing, why should that make a difference? I want to be paid 
according to my skills, the ability to do the job, not because I live in a 
certain place.  Is it a valid argument if I said "Yes I live in 
Queensland, but I drive a gold plated Porsche, eat out every night, and 
own a high rise in Surfers Paradise - you'll have to pay more because, 
jeez, you should see MY cost of living?"  Awww alright,  it's really a 
rust plated Ford :)
