What tool are you writing in Ilana?
In Word, you'd use sections to delimit each part of the doc and change
the page numbering scheme. In which case you can use the field
SectionPages to get the total number of pages for that section. So the
page reference looks like
{PAGE} of {SECTIONPAGES}
If you've more than the two sections (TOC and subject matter) it would
get complicated though.

Ilana asked :
2. Make the final page count a formula which is the actual number of
text in the document (not including the TOC).
Which method is better? If you nominate method two, how do I construct
this formula so that it will be automatically updated as pages are added
to the document.
Thanks for your advice.
Ilana
