Well, yes -- making due allowance for the fact that "style" involves =
choice of both words and grammatical structures, and Johnson was only =
concerned with the former.
What is perhaps more to the point is that Johnson thought he could "fix" =
language (meaning vocabulary), perhaps for all time. But times change, and =
with them the needs of language users.=20
