The Word spell checker doesn't function in locked documents.

If the users are not password-blocked from unlocking the file,
they can right-click on the tool bar area to display the forms
tool bar (if not already open) then * click the padlock icon to unlock
the file.

Then (with the keyboard Function keys lock enabled) press F7
to run the Word spell checker tool. (Tools > Spelling and Grammar...)

* Caution:  This is fine with Word 2003 or later but Word 97 and earlier,
as I recall had a nasty habit of flushing all fields every time the file was
unlocked.  So people should save their changes first before attempting
this, just in case.
