Best of luck with seeing what else is out there. I worked a contract where
they refused to buy me a screen capture utility. So I went through all the
free trials. I started with the 1 month of SnagIt, then anything else I
could find. That was a few years back, but nothing else came close.
I have worked out how to get around the problems I have been experiencing
with SnagIt/2007. I am very disciplined about when and how I use the Object
capture. I have my cursor on the object before I start, and don’t ever run
it across a page. That stops SnagIt from getting all snagged up trying to
find too many objects. I find it ludicrous that their support could not
simulate the problem and so denied that it was there. It has occurred
across two different computers, each with a generous amount of RAM.
Maybe their support team is overwhelmed – like everyone else – trying to
manage Vista? Maybe the Vista compatible package is not backwards
compatible – like Vista itself?

Hi Christine,
It does relate I think. It shows a potential instability in an application I
have been happily using and advocating for over ten years.
It might be time to see what else is out there, particularly since the
SnagIt support team STILL have not returned my email and it has now been
over 48 hours.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Bruce

When Word 2007 snags up it is SnagIt to blame. It is having problems with
the memory overload related to the vast number objects in Microsoft Office
2007. 2007/Windows XP was terrible – couldn’t collect objects at all (on my
computer). 2007/Windows Vista is a bit better (don’t say that too often!).
The SnagIt support denied any ability to replicate the problem, but didn’t
have any normal user level computer to test it on.
Window and Region capture are fine. Don’t know if this relates to the
original question though.

Yep. Had the same problem with MS Word crashing when I tried to insert
Snagit graphics. Blew me right out of the software and sometime right off
the computer. I too resorted to the same work-around - spreading folders
all over the place and limiting the number of graphics in each. I thought
it was MS Word acting persnickety. Memory is fading on that particular
project, but seems to me that allowing Snagit to create its own folder (the
new default function), rather than creating a “regular” folder for it, was
showing promise. The new updated Snagit, with the compete overhaul in
appearance, appears to have developed a few growing pains. Bummer, as I
love Snagit and all the new bells and whistles - but hate the new GUI
interface and the landmine feature is a real problem.

MNMary
