atw: Re: Senior tech writer position

Mick,

When recruiting (or being recruited!), I make the following assumptions about
senior tech writers and tech writers:

A technical writer would (as a minimum) be expected to produce materials to the
expected quality, within a specified timeframe, to budget and using the tools
appropriate to the job. They would also be able to manage their relationship
with their particular subject matter expert(s).

A senior technical writer should be able to scope a job, estimate time and
resource requirements, manage relationships with the client, all subject matter
experts (including managing expectations) and contribute to management
decision-making. They would also be able to edit the work of others and
provide leadership and mentoring to other writers on the team.
