I shall forward a message to the list (perhaps later this evening, when I have 
access to same, as I am at a client site at the moment) which was sent in a 
direct reply to the E-mail in question by an ethics professional.

It should make things clear(er).

In the meantime, please treat the offending E-mail that started all this hoo-ha 
with the scepticsm it so richly deserves.
