I totally agree with Christine re the CE-L list!
Hopefully the atw list doesn't head in that direction.

Boys, boys
This list does degenerate occasionally, but that your lucky stars that it is
not nasty all the time. The culture could be better, but it isn?t bad.
If you want to experience a truly bad culture get onto the CE-L list and in
your first post, make a deliberate but minor grammatical error. If you
won?t do that to yourself, then use ?their? instead of his/her as permitted
by the Macquarie. Alternatively, use some other mildly obscure usage where
there is legitimate debate between American English and the English as she
is writ by the rest of the English speaking world. Even send in one of
those language jokes ? a subtle one - where you are deliberately taking
liberties with the language.
Then stand back. You will experience true, unabridged, unmitigated
nastiness. Once they have picked all your nits and caused you to tighten
all your sphincter muscles, you can grin and return to this list with a new
appreciation, and a sigh of relief.
Long live Australian robustness, and our slightly more relaxed approach to
the world. Let?s not destroy our culture completely by falling into line
with the petty and insecure.
It is enough to reply to the ?abuser? off-line saying ? ?that was a bit
rough wasn?t it?, or even better, ignore them ? send them straight to your
trash. We are a small family and we all know who displays too much
testosterone at times. No-one thinks worse of those on the receiving end.
