atw: Re: Re-Office 2007 - Master Documents

Hi Warren,

I admire your confidence but I have found problems with numbers when
using List Number style in Word 2003. The problems are similar to
numbering problems in Word 97, though not quite as bad. They occur
mostly in documents with lots of number procedures.

After XP I thought the problems with numbering were fixed and was very
disappointed to encounter them again in Word 2003.

Michelle

I have found as long as you have the styles embedded in the document now
the numbering stays okay. Hey, I am not saying it won't happen. But it
doesn't seem to play up the way it used to...

Anyone found otherwise?

What about when you open the document on a different machine?

Numbering is now pretty solid in Word, the only caveat is that
you MUST use different numbering selections in the Bullets and numbering
dialog for EACH List Number style you have created in your document
template.

I haven't had to use my clever little macro for some time with
Word 2002 and beyond...
I think the problems started to be fixed in a later patch fro
Word/Office 2000.
        Anyway.
        Warren.

not necessarily a good idea to go with Frame, given it is no
longer being developed. Unless things have changed since last I knew,
Frame is pretty much history, so you will have to become an expert on
Word at some stage anyway - might as well be now.

Frame is also extraordinarily slow and clunky to work with
compared to Word, so once you get used to the workarounds for the Word
issues - and there are lots - Word is a much faster tool to use.
Numbering, and to a much lesser extend, large document handling, are
the two big issues for me with Word, and there are satisfactory, if
annoying, workarounds for both.

Thanks everyone (Michael, Donald, Rhonda, Christine,
Warren, and Peter) for your helpful replies.

I will tread very carefully with this 'simple'
project... and continue to keep pressure on management to convert to
Frame J
