Hi Daragh,
I'm not sure if this will be what you want exactly.
I'm assuming that you have a document where all of the
numbers were created in sequence. Now you want to add
new numbers into it, but these must continue on from
the existing, and the existing can be moved around
without losing their orignal values.
If that is right, then I did something similar a few
years ago. The original items had been created using a
customised numbered list. To be able to move them
around then create new numbers was a four-step
process.
1. Save the document with a new name.
2. I changed the style from list numbers to sequence
fields. (Search and replace styles if 'update style'
doesn't work.)
3. I locked the fields (possibly unlinked them). That
sets the numbers in concrete so they can be moved at
will.
4. Create a new style with seq numbering starting at
maximum value + 1. Add new paragraphs with the numbers
increasing sequentially.
If, on the other hand, you just want to add previously
sequential numbers anywhere within the document, you
could create a batch of them (preferrably in a
separate document) using Seq fields, unlink the
fields, then *cut* and paste anywhere into the target
document.
HTH,
Terry
