atw: Re: Query: Deliberate misspellings

Dear Petra - thank you for also completely ignoring my question and
dribbling on Off-topicly. If posting on this list this was a paid
publication I might consider it as important to get the spelling in the
question right. What colour is red herring?

Hi Steve,

I assume your reference to "CONSTRUCTIVE advice ... a rare commodity ..."=
=20implies that you feel Brian's pointing out your misspelling of depende=
nt is not constructive. Surely, on a list where accuracy is constantly di=
scussed and debated pointing out an error is always constructive. Further=
more, I really don't know how you would expect another techwriter not to =
draw attention to the irony of talking about others' misspellings in an e=
mail where you've misspelled a word yourself. It's simply an occupational=
=20hazard. Noone has perfect knowledge of our language and we are bound t= o
make mistakes sometimes even when we're most trying to avoid them - tha= t's
why even with all the copy editors, proofreaders and subeditors and s= o on
mistakes still get through in so many publications. Of course, I can= not
resist pointing out the irony of Warren saying he doesn't send out wo= rk
with "miss-spellings"!

(I originally put "misspelt" but I wasn't sure if that was correct so I d=
id a google - misspelt (49,600 returns) and misspelled (1,070,000 returns=
)).

Regards,
Petra
