Dear Petra,

Examples of that behaviour are in abundance all over the internet from
before its inception. It has never been considered good form to criticise
someone's spelling in a post whilst completely ignoring what their original
query was. I have seen this argument ever since I first started email in the
80's. 30 years on, I was hoping this problem was cliched.

Secondly, I was querying DELIBERATE misspellings in COMMERCIAL publications
because THAT IS WHAT THE AUDIENCE KNOWS. This has UTTERLY nothing to do with
a casual slip of a vowel in a non-commercial email that the audience knows
damn well is a fluff.

Last, Wazza was implying there was a bit more behind Brian's and my exchange
than meets the casual list eye, and indeed, you piggy-backed onto an
existing problem. I have found Brian... antagonistic to say the least.

However, after reviewing both Wazza's and my replies, I find nothing in them
that could possibly qualify for:

> I don't like being addressed in a nasty and personal way.

I found both replies terse, to the point and dismissive.

Hi Steve and Warren,

I had misgivings about sending my email because I suspected it might provoke
a personal and nasty response. I'm afraid that, as a techwriter, I don't see
anything so terrible about pointing out a misspelling in the same email
where others' misspellings are referred to. By pointing out the irony of
misspelling "misspelling" I'm not implying that Warren sends out work with
misspellings (not that I think that it is a great crime to do so anyway
because people can be good techwriters without having good spelling and a
spell-checker does not pick up everything) and I'm aware that when you're
writing on a list you don't check everything carefully. I've learnt my
lesson and I will avoid posting anything that I suspect might antagonise
like this because I don't like being addressed in a nasty and personal way.

Regards,
Petra
