atw: Re: Puzzling bullets -- tip

Well, I got sick of waiting for others on the list to do my work. So, I
did a bit more experimenting with the document and discovered that other
bullets (where there were no empty para marks to give extra spacing)
didn't give an empty para mark when adding a new bullet.

As far as I can work out, it appears to be a foible of the "Auto Format
as you Type" genre, with the 'Apply as you type' 'Automatic bulleted
list' checkbox ticked. Question answered! :)

Personally, I turn off all Word's automatic bullet/list/heading style
stuff to avoid this cr@p. My tip is that you should, too. (Though, I do
use the superscripting of ordinals, smart quotes...)

Cheers,
Terry

Subject: atw: Puzzling bullets

I'm working in an old template that seems to have a macro or autotext
setting that I'm am yet to work out. When hitting Enter at the end of a
bullet (manually formatted 'Normal' style), it creates a blank 'Normal'
style, then a bullet (again manually formatted 'Normal'). One 'Ctrl Z'
deletes the bulleted para, and a second deletes the blank para. All this
is done at 11 pt, but the existing bullets have 4 pt paras between them
to give additional spacing. I imagine the next step is supposed to be to
reduce the size of the blank para to 4 pt.

I've looked at the AutoText and macros and paragraph style options, but
haven't been able to work out what is happening. I know there are macros
behind the doc, but the only ones I can see are to do with table
creation and formatting.

Anyone got any ideas? (I will be replacing the 'normal' styles with ones
appropriate to the occasion and these will include built-in spacing, so
I won't be keeping the existing arrangements. But I am intrigued.)

Cheers,
Terry
