atw: Re: Product of choice

Oh, of course, silly me. Another one I have used for years:
Word Perfect Office suite
You should try the free trial, I think you will like it lots. It is
crazily, very good value, I would say underpriced given its capabilities.
It is still a wonderful and very stable, usable tool. The last couple of
versions have been superb. A real contender against MS Office. Moreover,
virtually seamless import from and export to Word document formatting is
standard, as has always been 'save as a pdf' feature, which works
beautifully. The best news is that VB is also available and works very
well, so all your Word macros will likely work. Given that many of the
"features" in Word we disable with macros don't even exist in WP, you may
find lots of your Word VB macros are no longer required. It also has some
great embedded features, like seamless and solid numbered lists (never
fail) and other nice features like mathematic equation layout tools and
stuff. View codes is a bit odd to use at first but is the most awesome way
to fix problems, as you can see everything. Styles are different in WP to
Word.

The presentation software (Presentations) is absolutely BULLET PROOF, and
I have helped prepare graphic heavy, Gb sized, presentations with it over
about 8 years. And its drawing capability p^##$s all over Powerpoint. In
fact most of my early technical illustration was created in Presentations.
I use Corel for technical illustration now.

The Excel equivalent, Quattro pro, was a bit of a pig although very, very
powerful, and I haven't played with it for a long time. Given the
improvements in the WP and Presentations applications I would imagine it
has improved a lot too.

HTH

Cheers everyone.
