Al,
Try viewing in Print Preview, and then updating the document (Ctrl A + F9) to 
fix the page numbering.

Applying the SP-3 patch to Word 2000 also fixes this problem.

Also from the Acrobat menu in Word, open Change Conversion Settings and select 
the Office tab. 
Clear the Embed Tags in Pdf. The embed tags feature is a cause of many problems 
when converting Word docs to Pdf.

  Hello all,

  we're converting Word 2000 docs to PDF using Acrobat 5.5.

  I have two problems:

  Firstly when I try to use the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button, Word freezes.
  I can create the PDF by printing to file and Distilling the file manually,
  but there are a lot of docs and this is inconvenient. I've fiddled with the
  settings without success. From my brief perusal of some user groups, this
  doesn't seem to be a common problem and of course neither Adobe or MS seem
  to be aware of it. Also: it's not a resource issue and graphics aren't part
  of the problem.

  Secondly when I create a PDF (using the print to file method), the
  {NUMPAGES} field code gives the value of the {PAGES} field code. So in the
  footer, instead of having: Page 1 of 3 and Page 2 of 3 and Page 3 of 3, I
  get: Page 1 of 1 and Page 2 of 2 and Page 3 of 3.

  Any answers to either of these mysteries would be much appreciated - or
  perhaps a hint of what user groups deal best with these issues.
