Yars! No macro needed to remove buttons & menus though, just create a global
template from a virgin normal and store the customisations to the facade in
it. If you want a 'set options' macro, stick it under

Public Sub AutoExec()

Indeed, one of my specialities is producing tailored authoring environments
if you require some help.

so, if i wanted to do that to, say, my team... could i write an application
level macro that would check for and remove those buttons and menu items
every time they start word? (then i could hide it in the normal.dot that i
would distribute, and they would be forced to use styles.
bwaaaahahahahahaha...)

Lists are always set by template. If not, Word guesses. If you control lists
by styles, then controlling styles also helps control lists. My articles
highly recommend removing formatting and manual list options from the GUI
altogether. Mind you, it is all good heresy!
