We bought a new hotplate recently and I insisted on having a wide one.
That way, the knobs at the front are in the same order as the sweep of
hotplates.
I never got the hang of the two front - two back hotplate with the knobs
in a straight line, as there is no relationship between the positions of
the plates and the knobs
Our new stove has strange symbols for oven/fan forced oven / grill. I
recently grilled a cake.
Sometimes I draw the open and closed symbols of an empty O and a filled O
on things next to the switch, or latch.
