atw: Re: Place a dot...

That is why they need their son or son-in-law to download and print the
information for them!?!

I agree with you totally Rob, and have been in that similar situation =
myself
(with both my father and father-in-law!) Although I too am struggling =
with
the terminology 'place the dot' you would almost need to do a survey of =
a
wide cross-section of users to know if it is a self-explanatory term (if
clumsy) or confusing in itself.

Hmmmm I read this and initially thought "what on earth!", but then I =
thought
some more about it. Their audience includes everyone from people who are
unfamiliar with computers to people who wouldn't need help setting up a =
modem
connection. Having tried to help my father and father in law through =
this
process, I know that they have no concept of "select the modem option" =
or
"click the modem radio button". It's just not terminology they are =
familiar
with. So in order to cater to as wide audience as possible, they opted =
to
make their more advanced users smile a little and shake their heads. Far
better outcome than leaving half their users floundering.

Of course the odd thing about this is... you need to be connected to the
internet to see it. That's the bizarre thing.
