atw: Re: Part-time contracting question

First ask whether they will pay you as a sole trader, on receipt of an ABN
number.
Then, if yes, you can just apply for an ABN number (Easy and Free).
Alternatively you can register a buiness name for $70.00. (and also still
apply for an ABN number)
In Melbourne, some businesses will do this.
However, if they wont, an alternative is to call Freelance and speak to Alan
Rancie 9810 7712 Mobile 0401 705 456. He will probably take a small
percent and give you good tax situation, and probably give you liability
insurance and possibly health insurance as part of the deal. I dont know
how good your tax is now, but of course you can claim all expenses, books,
stationary, software, home office, computer, etc, against your pay anyway to
get a tax deduction. If you are not doing this already, Freelance or a
*good* accountant will help.

Subject: atw: Part-time contracting question

An opportunity has come up for me to teach part-time at TAFE for 2 hours =
per week while retaining my full-time PAYG job.=20
A colleague mentioned to me it's worth considering setting up a company =
name so that the TAFE income won't be taxed at the highest rate.
I'd like to hear your opinion if you think this is a worthwhile step or =
perhaps not given the low number of teaching hours.
Any pointers appreciated.
