That's a gem.  Ahhh....segues, indeed that was what they kept referring
to. How they get away with this type of "reporting" I'll never know.

introduction to the following story by creating some
obscure, even misleading word association between
the preceding and following stories (I won't call them "reports").

A long used technique in the media.
