Come in spinner,
The problems with the 'Sit by Nellie' method of learning are:
1. it is very slow;
2. you never really know what has been learned;
3. the un-controlled culture wash from Nellie comes across, too, and
4. when the learner goes to another place, the culture wash may be
quite valueless - or value-laden.
If industry relied on having its workers learn this way, we would be
economic dead ducks.
Basically, we have a choice - put up with the great unwashed in
their masses as though they have something of value to impart - or
- take the lead and help them to learn something of real value.
As a teacher and trainer, I know where my preferences lie.
James, I think you'll find that 'usage of' has a different meaning
from 'usage by' - and I suspect you really meant the latter.
Regards,
Brian
