Good morning, Austechies Michael EG commented on my PC getting slow after a little use of the firewall I installed. > They either block, allow or ask re. letting things through. That's exactly what this thing does. For example, I entered a URL in IE and pressed GO - and the firewall interrupted the process, telling me that IE was trying to access the internet. Should I allow it? I thought it would have been smart enough to identify IE, but I patiently clicked the right squares so it will remember IE. > On some ADSL / Cable Internet plans I'm not rich enough for ADSL or cable, so it wasn't that problem. > you might have encountered a new piece of spyware That is the most likely scenario. I didn't scan last night because I was late. I'll update the Ad-Aware definitions and scan tonight before I download my mail. That's my usual practice of late. > please tell me your Web browser wasn't running in the > background at the time, trying to display a Flash It was none of those. With the mail client the only application running (apart from Vet and the firewall) I'd delete a mail and have to wait about 30 seconds for the next mail to become available. Multiply 30 seconds by 150 mails and you get irritated. I'll figure it out over the next few days. My only problem is that I've promised time to so many people that I can't focus on that task exclusively. With a modicum of patience and dumb luck I'll get it sorted. :-) Allan This message is intended for the addressee named and may contain confidential/privileged information.
