atw: Re: OpenOffice Outline Numbering

Corrupt list templates :-( And RTF is not your friend here, it preserves
much of the corruption and is way too tedious to manually repair.

First up: when playing with customising numbers, you must always enter the
customisation dialog by modifying the style associated with list level 1. I
am betting your o-worker did not. Eg: To modify heading 2 they should have
selected format > style > heading 1 > modify > numbering > list level 2 >
customise. They probably used format > style > heading 2 ...

To fix, save as either HTML or XML, close Word, reload the doc, save as
.doc.

If this doesn't work you THEN need to re-build the numbering for all levels
and ensure it is associated to the correct heading style (start at heading 1
and ustomise all the list levels in the one dialog pass). Repeat the cleanse
above, and the last of your improperly linked list templates shall disappear
forever.

Subject: atw: OpenOffice Outline Numbering

One of my co-workers is having a problem with numbered
subheadings and my vaunted ability to bend all word
processors to my will has failed.

I believe I've set up everything correctly in the outline
numbering formatting - the first-level Heading1 numbers
work fine. However, the second-level Heading2 numbers
start at 0 for the first digit no matter what we do. And
the instructions for pressing Tab to increment the numbers
doesn't work at all. All it does is move the heading to
subsequent tab stops.

I'm using StarOffice on UNIX if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
