Actually, it is L'Academie Française which makes decisions
about spelling and grammar here. Their decisions are not
always popular, or popularly accepted. But at least the
problem will have been reviewed by some highly respected
practitioners of the language.

L'Alliance Française is a money-making concern which teaches
French to foreigners.

The mouse issue does not exist, here. Une souris, deux
souris, alors c'est quoi ton problème ?
