Now Warren, let's try to separate the facts from the rant.
I'm guessing from this that you have a specified a workgroup template path
to which your document is pointing, and you are assuming that this is why
the document is hanging when you save? Correct?
If so, lots of assumptions here. You may have eliminated the other options,
but you haven't said so, so here goes.
1 Does your document hang if it is attached to any other template path
or not attached to any template at all?
2 Do you have a memory problem of some description. (I gather you are
using Windows XP, so it is not the memory hungry gadgets and other
paraphernalia of Windows Vista that are killing your system - is it?)(Is
your system good enough for 2007?)
3 Is your template a 2003 template or a 2007 template? If 2003, try
updating to 2007 and checking compatibility. My main warning to anyone
going from 2003 to 2007 is to take them time to update your templates and
get them totally clean and kosher before you try to use them in 2007.
4 Are you using any built in bullets and numbering? If so, my advice
is to chicken out and detach your template. I create the document on a
template then disconnect it. The ensuing nightmare of leaving it attached
(that I may or may not have solved) is not worth the effort. It could be
going round in endless circles trying to resolve numbering issues.
You might be interested to note that even Levi is now admitting there are
more pluses than minuses with 2007 over 2000. Oh, how are the mighty
fallen. It really is quite good, as you realise when you try to return to
2003 - which is sluggish and ugly by comparison.
Christine
