Technically, you don't have to have your templates in Documents and Setting=
s folder as long as you are using a template designated in Tools > Options =
> File Locations > User Templates. Word gets confused if the template you a=
re using is not in this designated file location.
I would also recommend that you have unchecked "Automatically update docume=
nt styles" in the Tools > Templates and Add-ins window. If you need a new s=
tyle for a template, create it directly in the template.
Doing these three things makes Word much happier, and in the end, you.
Cheers
Judith

Okay here is the first of my posts about Word 2007.
DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO LINK TEMPLATES TO A DOCUMENT THAT ARE NOT LOCATED IN
YOUR OWN "Documents and Settings\[username]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates folder"
=
It, of course, f#%$s Word up. Really f#%$s Word up. Like for ages hangs and=
throws wobbly not responding messages in Task Manager and generally
irritates the be-jesus out of irascible, Tour-de- France viewing sleep
deprived technical writers who lost patience with loser level cockroach pes=
t
MS software developers the first time they opened Word... (Say all that in
one breath...)
=
Typical. They couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery. For that matter,
they couldn't organise themselves to not dribble when they are eating. It's=
why MS software developers like to eat ribs, you get given a bib every time=
you are served them. =
=
Useless obviously essential, required component that doesn't WORK... =
=
Seriously, has anyone suffered a similar fate? Fortunately the symptoms
include saving everything perfectly well. However, the (and I can't figure
the hell out why - which infuriates me more) application hangs, severely -
blue screen of death severe enough. But it saves your work. Eventually, lik=
e
"go get a cup of tea while I let you wait" eventually. =
=
Also interesting to note, the old Word window is partially displayed in XP.=
This indicates to me all the developers have done is put a skin over the
top, written more vba to add more pretty toolbars, and turned customisable
toolbar functions off. =
=
Feeling ripped-off yet? =
=
Hi everyone, I feel better now. =
=
How are you all today? Chilly in Sydney but lovely clear azure blue
wind-blown skies. Just like the air left behind by Ricardo Ricco's ride las=
t
night. If you want to see a legend make his first stamps on the pantheon of=
the worlds great cycling stories - watch the replay of Ricco's magnificent
ride last night. AWESOME! =
