On a related issue, I've recently switched from FrameMaker to AuthorIT for
HTML and PDF based manuals.
FrameMaker output to PDF used to have a left column with browsable contents
links, and thats gone with AIT and the (Word based) PDF.
As I understand it AIT fires off your nominated PDF generator (currently
Acrobat 7). Is there an easy automated way of getting back to some
FrameMaker-like feature rich PDF output? Does the PDF output from Word 2007
have this kind of browsable contents?

Ahh, that is good news. Of course, WordPerfect had the full version of
Adobe
distiller fro years...

I'm not using Office 2007 yet, but today's "Office Watch" newsletter had
this to say:
************
7. SAVE AS PDF
There have always been add-in tools to make Acrobat PDF files from Word
documents but, at long last, the feature is built into Word.
Not only does that make it easier to make PDF's but it's also much faster
than external tools. The PDF's Word creates are well optimized.
The Word 2007 PDF options aren't as extensive as you might like but the
Word
2007 features are a start. If you need to tweak the PDF, Acrobat
Professional (or any other PDF editing tool) can open the Word 2007 made
PDF
and make the extra changes.
And yes, it really is part of Word 2007 - even though you have to download
'Save a PDF' from Microsoft. It's a separate download because of
wrangling
between Adobe and Microsoft - not any technical reasons.
