> just calling me a frog
It was a quote from Duke Nukem actually, as anyone with half a clue knows.
As I am sure you aware, I am fond of my cliches. Gee, if Macquaries lists
that word, will the government complain because it is a French word?
> I've been on Austechwriter since it started in Nov 98 and generally don't
cause too many waves..
"Built like a mack truck with a personality to match", "ignorant" etc, look
I really couldn't be bothered going through the rest of the numerous quotes
from others directly describing you, whether from phone calls, emails, face
to faces...
Your real contributions are extremely few and far between. Your level of
obnoxiousness and ignorance is quite high. Thus your presence would be
missed for... Hmmm, a poofteenth of a second, just a smidgin less than a
nanofart. Most of us are trying to help each other BJ.
>how about you Steve?
I left AusTechWriters because "Why bother helping folks, when I have to cop
BJAs on a regular basis?". I came back for numerous reasons, none of which
had anything to do with my personal wanting to rejoin this list. Let's get
that upfront, right away.
1) During my absence, every few months someone from ATW would send me a
message along the lines of "Just saw your excellent post re Tech Whirlers /
Word MVPs / Word PC-L / some other group, and I know you from ATW, so could
you please promote ATW seeing as you are Mr Big MovieStar Technical Writer
Guy <obviously I can fool some of the people some of the time :-) >" and my
replies have always been along the lines of: "Not a chance, the ratio of
annoyance to help is far too high, I have never seen such a hostile
self-help group"
2) Numerous list members constantly nagged me to rejoin.
3) Numerous friends and acquaintances of mine in the technical writing
fraternity here in Sydney have gently niggled me to return.
4) The final straw was acceditation. I have been extremely active in the
ASTC with this, with the overwhelming majority of my submissions being
researched results - you finally got a chance to see the last one because I
am back on here. It was one of the posts that contributed to your "too much
posting from this dropkick". The ASTC in Western Sydney suggested that
suffering the slings and arrows of BJA's was well worth the opportunity to
help promote and participate more. Indeed, it is only because of this reason
that not only did I rejoin, but I will ignore lines like:
> letting Steve get away with his nonsense all the time, typically without
censure.
So basically, I would really enjoy seeing said vote - but as you wouldn't
leave anyway, it is empty rhetoric. Whereas I have already proved I am more
than willing to take my time elsewhere and would happily do so again if that
was popularly requested.
> But the biggest chuckle
Yes, that's correct, I have yet to attack someone other than in self
defense. You on the other hand... laugh at your own incompetence. You like
to ring up peoples places of employment and try and get them sacked. The
list goes on Bruce. You are one of the very few people I would even bother
urinating on if you were on fire in front of me, I'd hand you some kerosene
and encourage you to run.

*LOL*
000aaaaaaaaahhhhh... Great comeback Steve (my kids would be proud). Come-on
Steve, surely you can do better than just calling me a frog (a bottom
feeding pond dweller). Why not get out your dictionary (the SOED OR the
Macquarie:)) and really have a go.
As to the list, well, let's get a vote happening Steve. I've been on
Austechwriter since it started in Nov 98 and generally don't cause too many
waves.. how about you Steve?
I suggest you look at the ACCURACY of what I said rather than just get upset
because I stated a simple home truth. Remember Steve, I was merely
supporting another list member who didn't like YOUR abuse.
But the biggest chuckle I received was from your comment "..your behaviour,
especially as outlined by your damned self in the below, is not."
O Steve... stop it ... ha ha please... Steve... my ribs are hurting.... this
comment, coming from you... accusing me of poor
behaviour...hahahahahahahahaha hhhhhHHAAaaAAHAhah HAhAHAhAhAhAhAhAhah
AhhAHAHahahhhHAAHahhhAAHh........ <glurb>........ sorry about that, I fell
off my chair but I'm OK now.
And Warren.
Thanks for leaving Steve's brilliant comeback attached to your email.. it
made my morning and I would have missed it otherwise.
As to your frogs, I'm not singing for anyone (too much testosterone I guess)
and anyway, if you heard me sing you wouldn't think it so wonderful. :)
Cheers,

You didn't like what this one person was saying so you told him what he had
to say was irrelevant. Yet did this without commenting on the issue. What a
joy you must be in the flesh.
Now which email do I take notice of here: the half a dozen off-list thank
you letters, or the very public bottom-feeding pond dweller? Hmmmm.
Bruce, go start your own list. That saves us all the hassle of filtering
you.
Your position on viruses might well be defensible enough, your behaviour,
especially as outlined by your damned self in the below, is not.

I think you missed the point Michael.
I don't care if virii or viruses is used and, until now, have not commented
on the issue.
Personally, I'll use 'viruses' (in the extremely rare event that I need to)
until I see sufficient weight-of-evidence to say I'm wrong, and nothing I've
seen so far (with a contrary view) qualifies as an authoritative source. The
SOED states 'viruses' and that's a defensible enough position for me - for
now.
I was commenting on one person's use of the list. As you know, the list gets
'taken over' every so often by certain people and while some do it in a nice
way (such as yourself), others don't and need, just every so often, to be
told to pull their collective head in.
Cheers.

Now, now lads.
A couple of deep breaths, please.
The trouble is that (and, yes, I am fully aware that I have been guilty of
this myself) it is far to easy to overreact to something in an E-mail that
would, ordinarily, be taken as an off-the-cuff leg pull over a few
sparkling, after hours ales.
Come on. We're all colleagues here with common goals.
Let's shake those virtual hands (the Internet uses handshaking, right?) move
back to our respective corners and relax, please.
Surely we don't want to turn this into a shadow of the old, Yahoo based
AusTechWriter, which became a no holds barred affair far too often.
Bruce (A), Craig (H) and Steve (H), you are all so obviously passionate
about your work, you care about quality, your clients and about the needs of
your intended audiences.
In the end, that's all that really matters, not these scraps about old
languages and the origins of words and such.
My 5 cents worth, after applying the supermarket rounding benefit.
Cheers,
Michael
P.S. I have it on good authority that Steve (H) is currently, productively
and professionally occupied and doing the marvellous work that his clients
have come to expect.
