atw: Re: [OT] TEFL teacher looking for examples of good English

Hey Garry (S)

Have your friend try www.bartleby.com for a most remarkable collection
of classic English literature, books of quotations and even grammar /
style guides on-line, such as the venerable Strunk & White.
All scanned in as searchable as usable and quotable text.

That aside, if you are looking for something on paper, do also check out
the following:

English Grammar in Use (Raymond Murphy) "A self-study reference and
practice book for intermediate students of English - With Answers &
CD-ROM - Second Edition (Cambridge University Press -
ISBN 0 521 52931 X)

Grammar Made Easy - a guide for parents & teachers (Barbara Dykes -
Southwood Press - Hale & Iremonger Pty Ltd www.haleiremonger.com -
ISBN 0 86806 616 8).

(... and my personal favourite!)
The Penguin Dictionary of Troublesome Words (Bill Bryson -
ISBN 0 14 051.200 4).

HTH.

How do:

I forward this request from a friend of mine teaching English as a foreign language in Norway or Finland or somewhere. One of her students, who is quite advanced, is looking for a compendium of various examples of good English: business, technical, etc. Any suggestions?

Garry
