I agree with you there. 

To me, the article (at
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/09/25/1064083097573.html) seemed very
sensible. 

All the same, the article says:
"...Windows was bound to a host of other applications ...and this
integration ...required the writing of code that is 15 to 35 times more
complex ...than that of its peers"

I believe that Microsoft software often _is_ wasteful, but I doubt the
reasons and figures stated by the article.

Brian, isn't it true that _any_ technology monopoly tends to cause security
breaches to have a wider and therefore more catastrophic effect?
