I leave my office PC alone. Among other stuff, I have Portable
Thunderbird (http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_thunderbird/)
loaded on my USB hard-drive. I plug in the drive, double click the link
I created on my office PC desktop and get my personal mail. Outlook
handles my work correspondence. I can keep my personal and reference
stuff separated from work. The Portable Thunderbird website links to
other portable applications.

How is this:
Load your own operating sytem, files, software and all, then plug in
to a remote computer, turn it all on and boot from the USB drive.
So anywhere I go, any time, as long as I can get a pc, I am away. But
it is also just so cool to have all my contracting tools with me.
Gotta love it.
