Jonathon. I use a plugger-in-able USB drive and I have a USB key and I
reckon they are the design idea of the early 2000's. Talk about ease of
file transfer...

How is this:
Load your own operating sytem, files, software and all, then plug in to a
remote computer, turn it all on and boot from the USB drive.
So anywhere I go, any time, as long as I can get a pc, I am away. But it
is also just so cool to have all my contracting tools with me. Gotta love
it.

Since there seems to be a cache of iPod users here, I would like to know a
bit about the things from a users perspective. I have a few questions
about iPod thingo's.
Given you can download ABC radio articles and interviews, do they work
like a walkman, and that would mean I could take my music collection with
me without the room taken up by CD's?
Do they work in all conditions?
And how much battery do they use?
How resilient are they to outdoor use conditions?
Do they require kid gloves or can they take a reasonable shake and bump?

Because it can get pretty lonely in a tent in the snowy mountains at
night, like last Friday night it would have been nice to have had some
music to listen to in the tent where it went down to about minus eight
degrees. Or on those long cycle rides. Weight and usability in damp-ish
cold and dark is an issue, as is being rattled around in a top pocket of a
back pack, vibration and bump shocks while cycling or pocket of a jacket
in weird weather.
