I agree, I think we are bombarded daily with fear-induced messages through all 
forms of the media. They do nothing to help me - only scare me into not 
listening, therefore, what's their point? They've lost a viewer and probably 
many more like me. The ABC and SBS news are different though, thankfully.

This has nothing to do with American culture. It is the news media. Stop 
listening to the news and you will gain peace of mind. News junkies worry 
needlessly over things they cannot change.
