I believe it's known as thermal radiation.
Goes to prove my point.
Everyone knows that more heat comes out of meetings than
light.
Which is approximately where this started.
And an approximation will do, given that quantum effects
are probabilities, not certainties.
And black holes are approximately black, but warm.
:-)
Mind you, Hawking could have had a big bias. He had a bet
riding on a crucial issue or two here, and had to make good
somehow!
