atw: Re: New Software for Documentation Department

I don't think you'll find a single-sourcing tool that will be practical for
the range of things you want to handle. I'd look at AuthorIT for producing
the manuals in PDF, HTML and Help formats, and Adobe CS2 for the brochures,
data sheets, illustrations and intranet content.

I think you'd be looking at around $800-$1000 for AuthorIt and about $1800
for CS2. If that's too steep there are good, cheaper alternatives--I really
like Deneba Canvas as an inexpensive alternative to Adobe Photoshop and
Illustrator, for example.

AuthorIT provides its own content management. I don't think there's much
you can do in that line with the brochures and data sheets.

Are the docs likely to need translation or localisation? If so that might
affect your choice of tools.

Good luck
