atw: Re: My own experience of agencies

This, of course, would have meant a great deal more if you'd identified
yourself. As it is, I'm left wondering if I contracted a virus opening your
email.

All the best

Subject: atw: My own experience of agencies

Let me say immediately that I believe that all the companies mentioned

below are the very height of professionalism, and that they deliver an

excellent service to all their clients. I can unreservedly recommend them

to anyone willing to pay them.

I can only speak of my own experience as a humble contractor employed by

them, and I can only offer my own opinions.

  * Systemik Solutions. A company that puts the "hole" into "arsehole". I

only got my money after many months following litigation in the

District Court. If I had a vulgar tongue I would characterise them as
"complete c--s". Fortunately, I don't, and shall simply say that I have no
intention of working for them in future.

  * HCi. My previously excellent experience with this company was ruined

during my late mother's illness. I had informed them that I could not

sign an extension to my contract as I had to care for my mother.

Nonetheless, they sent an employee to my house, demanding I sign an

extension. I respectfully said that I could not commit to an extension,

as I had to care for my gravely ill mother. Employee said that if I did

not sign now employee would return later that night to

get my signature. I can see their point of view: I was getting $50 an hour,
and they were getting another $50 an hour on top of that. I would have fought
to keep me!

  * IT Matters. Odious bastards. Wanted me to sign a contract at a lower

rate than they had agreed to verbally, demanded that I sign with a third

-party I had never heard of, and demanded I agree to sighting a document

I had never in fact seen. And sent me a virus to boot. I sent a very nice

fax to the principal's country address (as listed by ASIC), saying I

would be there next Sunday to discuss the matter with him and his missus.

A hand delivered missive from his lawyers a few hours later suggested I

would not be welcome, and that my contract was terminated. Dear oh dear.

  * Techwriter Placements. Many years ago I was interviewed by a morbidly

obese representative of this company. Jubba the Agent crossed off all the

rates on my CV, declaring that I should have to work for a far lower rate

than that for which I had been paid for years. I silently wished him a

painful arterial blockage, and left the interview.

If any of the above companies wishes to dispute my

version of the events, I welcome their contributions to this forum, or

their lawyer's letters, which I shall happily post on this forum and on my
USA-hosted website.

  All the best to austechwriters.
