atw: Re: Much reposted subjects...

My draft suggested process is this:

1 Agree on a co-ordinator (CO).

2 CO obtains as complete a copy of the archive as possible (ARC) and notes
the High Water Mark (HWM). The HWM is the last message captured in the
archive.

3 CO manages several volunteers (V) to find simple ways of reducing size
through batch processes.

4 CO breaks off a small chunk of the front of the archive to a V for FAQ
summary. Once archive digestion complete, V obtains a copy of the archive
from the HWM on and repeats process.

5 V replies to CO. CO stores original with abridged including revisor name
and publishes abridged chunk to publisher (P). If P is tricky we can have
the original text kept expanded behind but size constraints may forbid.

6 When we have achieved everything up to the last 3 months we revisit each
chunk with a different revisor and compare and contrast results. This
becomes a style guide which we publish as well.

7 Someone better investigate the rights of a collage. It is conceivable that
the folks who assemble this have some (c) interests. What is probably best
is to negotiate a book publishing deal, form a small NPO company and the
proceeds of the printed book can then pay for hosting, an independant list
server... whatever. Excessive profits can be spent on purchasing many
printed copies for schools. We need an Executor (E) for the NPO.

It is highly arguable that profits would be better spent on setting up a
institute full of psychiatrists and padded cells to treat advanced techus
writerus, or purchasing beer to sedate the inmates.
