atw: Re: Much reposted subjects...

The wiki could work _really_ well for this.

However, outstanding issues:

Obtaining a dump of the entire archive
8 or more expressions of interest in helping org the mess

I could whip up some macros to hunt down the repeated texts and blow them so
sig blocks etc hit the trail. I already have partial versions of this anyway
I use for trimming my dump file for my books. That reduces the size
enormously.

The next useful thing is a semi-automatic conversion of forced eol. Because
of the size I'd have to tweak it up to fully auto which has spinoff
advantages for me anyway. Formatting the output for wiki is a dead cinch.

I could also do some stuff after Ranger is finished to automate the thread
collection for automated chunking on the wiki.

This means entire threads can be chunked entire on their own page and
summarised simply by a human reader with a simple link back to the original
thread mess. We'd need to index them with multiple keywords etc. It's a big
human job even after such prepping.

My wordheretic site is hosted in the US as a favour. If required Liz I could
find out whether we could do it there. I'd prefer to keep it local if poss.

Quite frankly, after that I'll need to back right off for ages so can't help
much with the human trim.

Hi Kobus

Thanks for your offer. I'm going to spend the next few weeks looking
around to see what's available here in terms of hosting (if any one else
has suggestions, they'll be gratefully received) - then I'll do a
comparative whatsit on them to see what looks like the best solution.

In the meantime, Kobus, you may want to look at the hosting requirements
for OpenWiki, which is my current suggestion, because it's fairly easy
to set up. The standard setup is with an Access database, which I did't
use, as we had it hooked up to SQL server - I suspect this could make it
more interesting to set up than a basic website. I also will have to
look into this, because I was using it on an intranet rather than the
internet, so it will all be new to me, too.

I'll do it.
