I like to do the same thing, and I've also been a little frustrated with
the XP's rigid <anal> handling of the icon's. I generally just wrestle the
temporary little blighter's to the end of the line that XP insists on
maintaining down the left side of the screen. If I have a number of them,
I stuff the shortcuts in folder (which allows a tiny bit more flexibility
to manipulate the shortcuts placed inside) and arrange it at the end of the
line. So long as it's kept at the bottom end, it will not try to displace
other icons and will be quite the happy little veggimite.
I wanna nuklure bomb icon too; I also want a president who can pronounce
the ruddy word.
