Rather than use the desktop, which I find inefficient and clumsy, why not not
put your shortcuts on the quick launch bar or even better still create a new
toolbar to store your desktop shortcuts?
To display the quick launch bar, right click on the Task Bar, point to
toolbars then click Quick Launch.
To create a new toolbar, right click on the task bar, point to toolbars then
click new toolbar.
You can also drag and drop any file or folder directly to a toolbar or to the
quick launch bar.
